Internal Auditor

Objective

Work in cooperation with the global assurance team to design, plan and execute local and international internal audits of different business processes across the group within Europe. This will include financial and operational audits mainly in the area of purchasing, sales and production activities. The audits are to be performed as per the group audit methodology and in accordance to the professional internal audit standards published by the Institute of Internal Auditors. 
Supervise the annual SOx Compliance program in Germany by performing the risk assessment and reviewing the existing internal control frameworks as well as supporting the entities in designing new internal controls where needed.

Scope

The scope of work covers all group entities including joint ventures located in Germany and other entities in Belgium, France and the UK as per the audit plan. For certain assignments the scope can be extended to other European countries for a limited period of time. The position requires 30% of travelling.

Responsibilities

1. Perform financial and operational audits under the supervision of the Audit Manager and / or the assigned supervisor as per the audit plan. This particularly includes; Participation in designing and planning audits. Understanding and documenting business processes and internal controls under review. Evaluating the design of processes under review. Testing the operating effectiveness of internal controls.
2. Identify and document improvements in internal controls and value addition opportunities.
3. Participate in the discussions with process owners/managers over the testing results and recommendations raised.
4. Participate in writing draft audit reports.
5. Participate in periodic follow-up of open audit recommendations.
6. Understand and apply the audit methodology of the group's internal assurance department.
7. Develop a detailed understanding of the industry and the business process operated by entities.
8. Develop sufficient SAP system knowledge.
9. Establish relationships with local management and key employees.
10. Execute annual risk assessment with German entities management.

Education and experience

1. University degree in Accountancy, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering or Computer Science.
2. Fluent in German and English.
3. Experience in auditing is not required however an advantage as well as Big4 experience.
