To learn a bit more about the SRA, and what the Investigation team does, feel free to watch this short video. Find out what it means to be part of a team who resolve complaints & investigate solicitors / law firms when things go wrong.

The role

Acting in the public interest, Investigation Officers (IOs) are at the forefront of assessing and investigating reports about misconduct.

Desk based IOs have responsibility for identifying and assessing risk. They focus on the most serious issues and manage a caseload of varying complexity, across a multitude of legal areas. Delivering a positive customer experience throughout the process, IOs regularly update the subject and complainant about the progress of the investigation.

Owning and managing a workload, IOs collate and analyse detailed information to get to the heart of the matter and make decisions on what action needs to be taken. That could be constructive engagement over the telephone, or, taking more formal enforcement action.
