About the Opportunity

This is a second line of defence role which will provide Risk oversight and support to the Business on the implementation and embedding of the Risk Management Framework.

The role holder will oversee the implementation and embedding of the Risk Management Framework within Studio and will provide oversight and support to the Business Risk Manager and challenge the 1st line Director(s) and their senior management team(s) on delivery of their ongoing risk management activities.

  • Providing oversight and assurance to Board that 1st line business is undertaking its regulatory obligations with regards to robust risk management.
  • Providing guidance and support to the 1st line across the business on 'the how and the what' of working with the framework day to day.
  • Developing risk assessments that focus on priority risk areas to safeguard and support business goals.
  • Proactively managing and cascading continuous improvement actions and decisions around the framework to keep Studio current and future focused.
  • Assess and report on the capability of department on adherence to the framework and provide business Director with a view of their Risk Maturity assessment level.
  • Oversee the implementation and embedding of Risk Policies and procedures and provide independent support/opinion to proposed treatment plans as necessary.
  • Monitor, report and enhance the effectiveness of the Control Environment.
  • Deliver effective monitoring of controls ensuring that these are fit for purpose, operating effectively and support the delivery of business goals and targets.
  • Liaison with cross-functional network of key stakeholders to develop mitigating controls where risks, incidents and/or issues arise and ensure these are implemented.
  • Lead the development and ongoing support to risk governance arrangements, including coordination of relevant 2nd line MI and reporting.
  • Attend monthly Director Risk meetings and provide support and challenge to the Risk profile presented by Risk owners.
  • Be a key part of a high performing team, supporting colleagues through meeting stretching objectives and meeting the 'how' requirements.
  • Support business incidents and issues and ensure they are raised and managed as per the Risk Management process.
  • Support and where appropriate deliver Risk training and awareness programmes as appropriate to help develop and maintain a risk aware culture.
  • Oversee the progression of audit and / or Compliance Monitoring actions within department assigned and ensure they are tracked and monitored in line with the agreed completion dates.
  • Support the embedding of a risk management culture throughout the business by actively cultivating and maintaining close stakeholder relationships, providing advice on risk management issues and demonstrating the benefits to be derived for the culture.

What experience do you need?

  • Demonstratable experience of working within a 1st or 2nd line Risk team is essential, preferably within the financial services industry.
  • Experience of implementing overseeing Risk and Policy frameworks is desirable.
  • The role requires a good level of technical knowledge across all areas of operational risk and applying this to business functions.
  • The ability to demonstrate influencing skills at all levels and at pace will be key for the individual to be successful in role.
  • Ability to diagnose and articulate material weaknesses in key controls and to identify proportionate and pragmatic solutions.
  • Experience of managing and working with risk and control frameworks within front line businesses.
  • Strong team working, relationship and stakeholder management skills with proven ability to influence at Senior Management and Director level and across teams in a matrix management organisation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills at all levels of the business, with the ability to translate complex or technical issues to suit target audience.
  • Awareness and understanding of conduct risk, particularly in the delivery of fair customer outcomes.
