About The Role

As the second largest Building Society in the UK and the 8th largest lender, we know a thing or two about Savings and Mortgages. The Society has grown significantly over the past decade in particular and now has over 2600 employees and 1.8 million members. The Society is a Which recommended savings provider and we’re proud to be number two in the Times Top 25 Best Big Companies to work for.

We are looking for an experienced internal audit practitioner with extensive accounting, finance and prudential risk experience to hold the key role within the Internal Audit team related to monitoring, assessing and challenging the Society’s Finance and Treasury functions and the overall financial operations of the Society. The Senior Audit Manager - Finance, Treasury and Prudential Risk role includes a direct reporting line to the Chief Internal Auditor.

You'll provide leadership, insight and direction to the approach and methodology used by the Internal Audit team to assess the Society’s Finance, Treasury and Prudential Risk management activities. The role will focus on processes associated with liquidity and capital management, market risk management, margin management, regulatory reporting, financial accounting and reporting, financial planning and cost management. The role will also provide valuable input into audit assurance work associated with the Society’s most complex and critical models, and the Society’s data management strategy.

You'll have the opportunity to interface with the Society’s Finance, Treasury and second-line Prudential Risk functions, and to influence and critically challenge senior stakeholders.

You'll be accountable for monitoring the audit activity conducted across these areas and providing insight and challenge to the manner in which Internal Audit facilitates the assessment of and reporting on key risk management and control concerns associated with the Society’s Finance, Treasury and Prudential Risk management activities. You will play a key role in ensuring that these risks are effectively managed and a robust control environment is maintained.

You'll work closely with members of the Internal Audit team to ensure that the broadest set of risks is appropriately managed.

About You

You will have the ability to form strong relationships through excellent stakeholder management skills. Our Internal Audit Senior Management team is expected to face off to stakeholders across the Society to provide effective monitoring and challenge to ensure that risk management and control activities are conducted in line with the Society’s risk appetite.

You will also possess an ability to influence and challenge stakeholders in the respective functions as necessary. Most importantly, you’ll seek out and establish relationships in teams across the Society to make sure collaborative work is the norm, not the exception.

You’ll need to be comfortable dealing with these senior stakeholders, setting the direction for the internal work related to the Society’s Finance, Treasury and Prudential Risk management activities, managing your workload independently, and working to formal deadlines. You will have experience in the development and implementation of action orientated assurance approaches, issues / findings reporting and remediation plan agreement.

You’ll be resilient when you need to adapt and alter the current approach and you’ll need to display innovative thinking to match work planned with the demands of stakeholders across the Society, up to and including Board Audit Committee level.

You will support the development and execution of the Society’s annual Internal Audit Plan. You will lead in the development and agreement of a risk based audit plan, which ensures compliance with statutory obligations and business requirements whilst remaining flexible to emerging risks and issues to the Society and wider financial services industry.

You will have a strong and detailed knowledge of the risks and controls associated with the Finance, Treasury and Prudential Risk management, having had exposure to such functions and activities in a similarly complex organisation, ideally in the financial services sector. You’ll have experience of working as part of a Finance or Accounting function, or within an Internal Audit team or controls assurance function.

In your previous roles you will have developed your interpersonal, analytical, presentation, analysis and communication skills and be comfortable working across all levels and departments within the Society. You will be a highly competent report writer, being able to present views effectively, deal with challenge and ultimately gain support for your personal conclusions and opinions.

You’ll have access to and a desire for maintaining an understanding of internal audit professional advancements and an ability to integrate current external thinking into the work undertaken by the Society’s in-house Internal Audit team.

If you feel you have the right experience and skills and want to make a positive contribution to the continued success of the Coventry then please apply today!
