Summary

This role offers a highly-motivated individual the opportunity to lead a team at the forefront of Government’s agenda to keep the UK secure from cyber threats. With a team of approximately 2 staff you will be responsible for an ambitious strand of work aimed at identifying critical and emerging technologies that have an impact on Cyber Security, and engaging with policy teams to develop and deliver policy to reduce cyber risks to the UK’s digital economy.

This is a demanding and rewarding role that offers excellent development opportunities. You can expect an exciting, fast-paced and varied workload. You will need exceptionally strong influencing abilities to lead an ambitious programme of innovative and world leading cyber initiatives and policy development. You will be expected to lead the team to work effectively and collaboratively across Whitehall, and with a broad range of industry and stakeholders. The job requires excellent analysis and communication skills, the ability to build strong and trusted networks across industry and Government and the ability to present your work in public.

You will have a confident understanding of technology and the policy landscape for security standards and practices for digital technologies, be aware of emergency technology trends, and understand how reducing inherent cyber risks fits in with the broader Government ambitions of the UK being a cyber power.

Responsibilities

The Cyber Technologies Analysis lead is a stretching role, and the successful candidate will be integral to the success of the UK’s Cyber Strategy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading for the Cyber Directorate on monitoring science and technology developments and understanding their impact on Cyber Security.
  • Developing the evidence base and information sources for assessing risk to and opportunity for the UK’s cyber security as a result of these developments.
  • Leading engagement and input into Departmental and cross-Government Science and Technology communities from a Cyber Security perspective.
  • Deliver analytical products and robust recommendations to inform prioritisation of technology areas, enabling colleagues to make policy decisions on these technologies.
  • Manage contracts for research, analysis and horizon scanning.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience in evaluating and synthesising technical evidence, preparing analytical briefings, submissions and reports, engaging with stakeholders on this evidence
  • Knowledge of the policy and standards landscape related to secure technologies
  • Seeing the Big Picture: A demonstrated ability to deliver impactful solutions that respond to the operational context and which have an impact beyond their immediate objective.
  • Working Together: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills to drive a coherent response across Government and industry.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of diverse backgrounds and abilities, alongside strong financial and programme management skills required to ensure appropriate oversight of spend and delivery.
  • Communicating and Influencing: Ability to engage and influence a range of senior stakeholders including Ministers, in DCMS and beyond.

Desirable Skills:

  • Exposure to Horizon Scanning and Futures thinking. Knowledge of the emerging technology landscape and cyber threats.
