Job Details

If you offer experience of working in information security in a junior role and have the drive to succeed in a more senior position this is a great opportunity to progress your career in cyber security within a world leading organisation.

About UKHO

The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. We work with a wide range of data partners to chart the world's oceans in order to develop and serve world leading software and data solutions to commercial shipping companies, navies and maritime organisations.

The role

You will be part of the team that ensures the UKHO information systems are designed, built, maintained and used in a secure manner to reduce the risk of a compromise to our valuable information assets.

With support and guidance from the Lead Security and Information Risk Advisor, you will undertake a range of activities in the field of information and cyber security, ranging from the analysis of requirements to the provision of advice and risk management.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Addressing identified cyber security related risks by applying a variety of security tools and techniques
  • Validating the effectiveness of risk mitigation measures
  • Reviewing changes across the UKHO; investigating those that are new, contentious, or innovative and making appropriate recommendations for action
  • Participating in internal audits and assisting in the production of audit reports

This is a development role where you will progress from Security and Information Risk Advisor to Senior Security and Information Risk Advisor. You will be given appropriate training, mentoring and support to build your skills/capability, following a defined development plan. We will support you to take a Level 6 Cyber Security Technical Professional Apprenticeship in this role and you will also have the opportunity to undertake courses to stay abreast of current cyber trends and technologies.

We are looking for a talented, supportive team player who is also able to work with a high level of autonomy and responsibility. Someone who can adapt quickly to meet new problems, make effective decisions while delivering at pace and contribute towards making changes and improvements, helping to ensure we maintain a high-quality service.

You will already be experienced in working within an information security team, with good consulting, influencing and communications skills and experience in designing simple technical solutions. You will also need experience of working within accreditation frameworks and a working knowledge of security technologies.

In return

UKHO is a great place in which to explore your career potential. While our projects are career-defining, the work/life balance that we can offer you is equally exceptional. From flexitime, flexible working, an award-winning office environment and a generous annual leave allowance of 34.5 days including public holidays, the opportunities open to you here are hard to beat.
