From good practice to best practice: shape risk management at ONR.

The challenge

Often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation. Essentially, we’re responsible for shaping and delivering the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. It’s crucial work and we’re accountable to the government – so managing business risk is key. As a Risk Support Manager, you’ll have the chance to help us shape risk management as you develop your career.

The role

We’re determined to make risk management at ONR the best it can be. As a Risk Support Manager, you’ll be at the heart of this work, helping the Risk Support Co-ordinator to develop the Risk Improvement Plan. You’ll produce risk management reports and guidance, monitor risk updates and check internal controls are in place. But where your efforts will really count is when supporting progress.

We want colleagues to join us for the journey as risk management develops at ONR. You’ll have a key role to play in raising awareness, instilling best practice and delivering training in software and other areas. It means building relationships, educating and explaining how we work. Strong communication skills are therefore essential to the role.

The person

At this level, you should be working towards a relevant risk management qualification (if you don’t have one already). A skilled Excel user, you are comfortable with IT. You’ll also have proven experience in risk management and knowledge of tools and techniques. Whatever your background, you’ll be organised, flexible, great with people and always ready to help.

Although you won’t initially have management responsibilities, there may be an opportunity to develop leadership skills in the future.

Please note that this role will require regular visits to ONR’s Bootle office.

The rewards

We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £31,798 - £37,290 (plus a London Weighting allowance of £4,052). Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). Plus, you’ll receive a generous holiday entitlement. Like all our roles, this one offers flexible, hybrid working. However, you will need to visit our Bootle office regularly.
