About the CWGC

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission honours and cares for the men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the First and Second World Wars, ensuring they will never be forgotten. Funded by six Member Governments, our work began with building, and now maintaining, cemeteries at 23,000 locations all over the world.

Today, over a century after we first began, our work continues through our staff, supporters and volunteers who preserve our unique cultural, horticultural and architectural heritage and ensure that the stories of those who died are told.

About this Role and You

As our Head of Risk and Internal Audit, you will take the lead on the review and implementation of the Commission's global Risk Management policy and processes, ensuring best practice is embedded into operational decision-making. You will also be responsible for delivering the Commission's internal audit strategy, aimed at monitoring and improving the global internal control environment; the management of counter-fraud activities; and procuring insurance cover.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and independently-minded individual, keen to raise standards by working closely with managers across the Commission's international workforce and somehow managing to be both supportive and challenging all at the same time.

To be successful within this position you will have significant experience of risk management and internal audit in an international setting, excellent communication skills and a well-organised approach that is both analytical and pragmatic. You will also have some management experience, as you will be responsible for managing the output of both the employed Regional Auditor and the outsource provider of internal audit services. Deadline-focussed, you will have a particular skill at marshalling others to be similarly focussed.

As always, we are looking for applicants who share our Values of Respect, Excellence, Teamwork, Communication, Professionalism and Commitment.

What We Offer:

  • Hybrid working plus flexible working arrangements. You will be expected to attend the office two days a week - Tuesdays plus one other be agreement with your Line Manager. Every Friday we work from home.
  • A generous holiday allocation of 25 days plus paid public holidays and office closure between Christmas and New Year
  • Generous Pension Scheme and up to six times salary Life Assurance cover
