Disaster Recovery Manager - Exams Technology (ETO).

A rare and exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to make a significant and longstanding impact on the future of Cambridge University Press and Assessment (CUP&A) by owning, proving, and enhancing the Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning processes in Exams Technology (ETO).

The Disaster Recovery Manager reports to the Head of IT Support Services and works closely with the Group Head of Business Continuity. The role holder is responsible for the development, maintenance, and validation of Disaster Recovery (DR) plans, and alignment with relevant Business Continuity plans (BCP) in line with industry best practice.

ETO runs a complex estate of over 200 applications, 75% of which are hosted at our Tier 1 data centres. These applications process examinations for schools and learners across the globe, and resilience is key. In the event of a failure, we need to recover our estate smoothly, in the correct sequence, with the correct data, and with minimal disruption to the business community.

The role requires a passionate and driven individual who can coach senior managers in Disaster Recovery in their areas and be their senior advisor in the event of a serious incident. The role holder will drive our ISO22301 programme within Technology and build a culture of continuous improvement in areas such as risk identification and removal across the business in DR and BCP areas.

This role is particularly suited to someone who enjoys handling multiple priorities at any given time, with the breadth of knowledge to drive technical improvements alongside planning, preparing for, and leading rehearsals.

Someone who excels in this role will need the skillset to set a strong and energising strategy that constantly pushes technical ability to recover forward and ensure business plans are able to minimise risk and ensure the continued timely delivery of exam processing services in the event of an incident being declared

What you'll be doing:

  • Understanding the current IT risk profile for proven recovery of all IT systems (on Prem and SaaS) in line with Recovery Time and Recovery Point objectives (RTO and RPO) set by the business.
  • Ensure IT DR mobilisation plans are through, tested and rehearsed on an ongoing basis.
  • Development, coordination, and delivery of a full schedule of scenarios and a testing programme, including conducting risk assessments in relation to scenarios and incidents.
  • Ensure alignment of resources and personnel to deliver a programme of regular rehearsals and improvement programme
  • Taking the lead in the rehearsal process, co-ordinating internal Infrastructure, Network, Application Management teams, IT Service and Security resources and 3rd party resources.
  • Undertaking reviews of previous rehearsals and identifying risk and improvements.
  • Working with relevant IT teams to deliver process or system improvements to limit risk
  • Ensure alignment of IT DR planning against Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and adapt based on business need.

What you can bring:

  • Proven experience in DR planning, execution, and review
  • Proven experience in Business Continuity Planning
  • Excellent communication skills, combined with a high degree of enthusiasm, drive and commitment
  • Ability to engage and prioritise work with other IT teams to ensure delivery of improvements in timescales agreed
  • Passionate about reducing risk and improving recovery solutions
